Essential Oils To Help With Psoriasis
Have you thought of using essential oils to help with psoriasis? Tired and desperate for ineffective corticosteroid treatments?
Characterized by thick, red patches of skin that stand out as white scales, psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease that mainly affects the elbows, knees and scalp. The causes of psoriasis are multiple and complex: genetic, psychological and environmental factors are often favored. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, psoriasis may be benign or cover up to 10% of the body, psoriasis affects about 7.5 million people in America which equals to about 2.2% of its population. 125 million of the world’s population has psoriasis, which represents 2 to 3% of the whole population of our planet. Sadly, too often (64%), these people are victims of discrimination.
Aromatherapy can help people with psoriasis very effectively. In this article, I am going to present you with two powerful synergies, one for adults and one for pregnant women. The selected essential oils will help relieve pain and inflammation due to psoriasis. They will also allow your skin to regenerate better and heal.
The reference recipe for fighting psoriasis (for adults)

1 – The Geranium Rosat: tonic and astringent skin

In addition, its anti-infective properties, especially on skin infections, and anti-inflammatory are quite appropriate in the case of psoriasis.
2 – Lavender Fine: anti-inflammatory and soothing
For the above mixture: 20 drops.
Psoriasis is an inflammatory disease of the skin. It is painful and will cause unpleasant feelings of heat. The essential oil of Lavender Fine, with antalgic properties, is therefore essential in this recipe.

Linalool and linalyl acetate, which represent between 51 and 76% of the components of the essential oil of Lavender Fine will help to calm the pain. Linalool will stimulate the morphine receptors that control pain. The enkephalins (small analgesic proteins synthesized in the brain) will be released and will inhibit the transmission of the message “pain” to the brain.
The essential oil of Lavender Fine also has skin regenerative and healing properties, thanks to the linalool and sesquiterpenes that compose it. It is therefore ideal for psoriasis.
3 – The Tea Tree: anti-infectious and immune stimulant
For the above mixture: 40 drops.
In a synergy to treat a skin problem, it is vital to add an anti-infectious essential oil. In the case of psoriasis, an excessive activity of lymphocytes is questioned. The essential oil of Tea Tree possesses properties that are both anti-infectious but also immunomodulating thanks to the terpinen-4-ol it contains.

Terpinen-4-ol will stimulate the activity of white blood cells but will limit the specific production of lymphocytes allowing the immune system to regulate itself. By limiting the activity of lymphocytes, the Tea Tree reduces psoriasis.
4 – The Chamomile Matricaria: healing
For the above mixture: 40 drops.
Chamomile Matricaria essential oil has been specifically chosen for its powerful anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Indeed, it contains large quantities of sesquiterpenes (beta farnesene, chamazulene, trans trans alpha farnesene) and a sesquiterpene alcohol (alpha bisabolol). Chamazulene inhibits, for example, the formation of leukotrienes B4 (molecules involved in triggering inflammation).
In addition, alpha bisabolol is known to be a potent scarring agent. It will increase cell repair by maintaining asepsis (medium without germ) and inhibiting inflammation, which will promote the healing process. In addition, it will stimulate the synthesis of keratinocytes (cells constituting 90% of the superficial layer of the skin). This property is all the more effective because it is coupled with the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of Tea Tree essential oil.
5 – Calendula: nourishing and anti-inflammatory
For the above mixture: 80 drops.
This oily Calendula macerate is useful in this synergy for its anti-inflammatory action. The fariadol which composes it indeed reinforces the action of the essential oils, to reduce the inflammation due to the psoriasis, quickly and efficiently.

The fatty acids that make up Calendula oil strengthen the hydrolipidic film that serves as a barrier to the skin against external aggressions. These same fatty acids will penetrate to the heart of the epidermis, to nourish the skin deeply. Thus, Calendula essential oil have your skin nourished, soothed and softened.

Anti-psoriasis essential oil recipe adapted to pregnant women
Calm your psoriasis naturally during pregnancy.
Although more than 50% of women experience decreased psoriasis during pregnancy, some still suffer. This chronic inflammatory skin disease has no serious consequences for health but more on the psychological aspect of people with the disease. Indeed, it can spread on a large part of the body and its red and flaky patches are particularly visible. Like many skin diseases, they are difficult to live with and misunderstood, plunging pregnant women into difficult situations that can complicate pregnancy.
To limit these consequences and relieve the symptoms of psoriasis, the synergy of essential oils is a solution. Antalgic, anti-inflammatory, skin regenerative, the properties of the essential oils present will add up for a better efficiency. But you must adapt your synergy by removing those essential oils that are forbidden to pregnant women.
General precautions relating to pregnant women
In general, remember that essential oils are PROHIBITED for pregnant women under 3 months and babies under 3 months! In addition, in case of fever, consult your doctor immediately to avoid an emergency.
The following recipe is not suitable for children under 3 years old. In case of flu, consult without delay.
The recipe for pregnant women
Essential oils to help with psoriasis:
To fight against psoriasis during pregnancy, take your empty bottle, and add:
- 2 drops of Lavender Fine essential oil
- 2 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
- 2 drops of Roman Chamomile essential oil
- 100 drops of Calendula Oily Macerate
That’s it, shake and label your bottle. Your mixture is ready for use!
HOW TO USE THIS MIXTURE?
In cutaneous (on the skin) application, gently deposit 2 to 8 drops (depending on the extent of your psoriasis) of your mixture of essential oils on your psoriasis.
You can renew the application 2 to 3 times a day until your psoriasis improves or disappears completely.
Why these essential oils?
1 – The Lavender Fine is always present
For the above mixture: 2 drops.
Lavender Fine essential oil is used here for its soothing action. It will act on the nervous system but also on the skin. Indeed, psoriasis will cause pain and itching more or less intense.
Click on the image for more details ➸
The majority of linalool will act via the nociceptive fibers present on the surface of the skin. It will inhibit the passage of the pain message of these fibers to the brain causing local anesthesia. This property is put to use in case of itching, skin irritation etc.
In addition, linalool is healing. It will help the body repair the skin by keeping the medium free of germs (thus limiting infection of open wounds) and inhibiting tissue inflammation. The pain will be all the more diminished as well as the aesthetic appearance of psoriasis. This essential oil is also composed of linalyl acetate responsible for the calming and sedative activity. It will strengthen the action of the esters of the essential oil of the Roman Chamomile to limit the stress and thus the psoriasis flares.Tea Tree Essential Oil
2 – The Tea Tree is necessary in your recipes for the immune system
For the above mixture: 2 drops.
Terpinen-4-ol contained in large quantities in Tea Tree essential oil has immunomodulatory activity. It is therefore indicated in the case of psoriasis which is due to excessive activity of the immune system.
Click on the image for more details ➸
Terpinen-4-ol will limit the production of lymphocytes (molecules involved in immune defense) on the one hand, by reducing interleukins II, which contribute to the body’s natural response to microbial infection and, on the other hand, increasing IV interleukins, which decrease inflammation and increase healing. This action will allow the immune system to regulate itself and thus limit the activity of white blood cells thus reducing psoriasis.
3 – The Roman Chamomile: a powerful anti-inflammatory
For the above mixture: 2 drops.
By definition, psoriasis is an inflammatory disease. That is, the immune system triggers inflammation to protect itself from a foreign body. In the case of psoriasis, there is no real infection, it is simply a disruption of the immune system. This inflammation results in redness, swelling and pain.
Click on the image for more details ➸
To limit these consequences, the essential oil of Roman Chamomile is a specialist. It contains almost all monoterpene esters that will act on the molecules involved in the process of inflammation. In addition, they are molecules with a strong calming and relaxing power. They will therefore reduce psoriasis outbreaks that are often due to stress outbreaks.
4 – The Calendula is the indispensable ally to dilute your recipes
For the above mixture: 100 drops.
When one is pregnant, one is very fragile and it is thus better to use the diluted essential oils in a support, in order to avoid an overdose. This is how oily Macerate Calendula finds its place in this mixture. In addition to being a penetrating oil that will be a good vector for essential oils, Calendula brings its own active ingredients to strengthen their action.

Fariadol, an unsaponifiable present in Calendula oil, has excellent anti-inflammatory properties, which will support those of Roman Chamomile. The fatty acids present in the Calendula oil will also nourish the skin deeply and thus soothe it, reinforcing the analgesic effect of Fine Lavender. Finally, these same fatty acids will help strengthen the hydrolipidic film of the skin, a real cutaneous barrier against attacks and external infections.
Precautions for use:

YES ➸ Pregnant women over 3 months, breastfeeding women.
NO ➸ Pregnant women of less than 3 months.

Hi John,
Thanks so much for taking the time to write a helpful article to help me to live better with psoriasis.
As you say, I get tired to deal with it most of the days and my doctor only tells me to keep on the prescription he gives me.
It’s good to know there’s a better way to treat it and get good results.
I will follow your advice and instructions.
Do you have any advice to help me to get rid of age spots on my hands?
Thanks very much for visiting my website Alejandra and for commenting on one of my latest articles “Essential Oils To Help With Psoriasis”. I am glad that you might have found an alternative way for treating your psoriasis. Once you have started using the recipe I have suggested, please make sure to record your results and share your progress here below.
Regarding your question about how to get rid of age spots on your hands, of course I have some recommendations for you which are also alternative to conventional medicines. I usually recommend one of the 3 following essential oils which guarantees great results:
1. Frankincense Essential Oil = https://amzn.to/2LwYuT5
2. Sandalwood Essential Oil = https://amzn.to/2Ja44wd
3. Lavender Essential Oil = https://amzn.to/2KToLtB
You do not need all 3 of them at the same time but you might have to test one after the other in order to find the one that works best for you. Also, you and some of my readers might be interested in knowing that these essential oils are also good to help with reducing the appearance of wrinkles and also have anti-tumor and anti-cancerous properties, the reason why it is perfect for dealing with age spots.
Essential oils should always be mixed with a carrier oil, such as coconut oil or apricot oil. You need to apply this mixture only on your age spots, with a earbud for example.
I hope that this will help your conditions Alejandra and of course I would be happy if you would report back here with your results.
I wish you the very best of health.

In the years of health and wellness industry, psoriasis is a non curable illness. You have share with everyone who have psoriasis on how to relieve the symptom and the recipe using essential oil.
Thanks for the informative article. I enjoy reading your article a lot by gaining knowledge of using essential oil.
Correct Paul, thanks for reminding us that there is no known complete cure for psoriasis, although great progress is been made. When we say that “we cure”, or “help to cure”, we in fact mean that we help to relieve the pain caused by this skin disorder.
We now know of many ways to keep our psoriasis under control. When asked what remedy I can suggest, I usually recommend two things to do to start with, which are very often enough to help. They are:
– What Is A Psoriasis Diet
– Dead Sea Salt And Psoriasis
I wish you the very best of health Paul.

My grandma suffers terribly with psoriasis and has tried all sorts of lotions and potions. This remedy sounds really good and definitely worth giving a go as I hate to see her in discomfort. I presume it’s fairly easy to get hold of all the essential oils that you mention.
Is psoriasis hereditary? Also, do you become more prone to it if you are pregnant?
Thanks very much for sharing your grandma’s unfortunate experience with psoriasis Louise. Yes, you could try the remedy I am suggesting in my Essential Oils To Help With Psoriasis article. These essential oils are very easy to get hold of, and at best prices on Amazon.
Psoriasis is believed to be hereditary, yes. As a matter of fact I am in the process of writing an article on the subject, so if you have requested to be informed when a new content is published, you will soon be notified.
We know that pregnancy results in many changes in the woman’s body, and that includes the skin. In some cases, psoriasis may tend to appear during pregnancy, but only on women who are prone to have this skin disorder. This situation is discussed in one of my earlier articles: Natural Remedies For Psoriasis During Pregnancy
I hope that you will find a suitable remedy for your grandma and if you have any questions, please ask them here and I am sure that you will have a rapid reply.
I wish you and your grandma a very healthy life.

Thank you
You are most welcome Matt.
