A recent study found that people who start exercising late in life can reverse wrinkles on the face, crow’s feet, areas of hanging skin, and there is a scientific explanation for this.
The news is so important that it was reported in America’s largest daily, The New York Times.
Canadian researchers at McMaster University in Ontario have observed that sport combats changes in the layers on the skin’s surface with age.
After around 40 years, most people experience a thickening of the top layer of their skin, called the stratum corneum. This is the part most easily visible to the naked eye. It tends to become drier, scaly, dense.
During this time, the layer that lies just below the surface, called the dermis, on the contrary begins to thin. It loses elasticity and cells. This makes the skin appear more translucent and flabby, the researchers explain.
This even happens in people whose skin has never been damaged by the sun.
But these new findings show that the phenomenon can be neutralized and even reversed in animals and humans.
They have shown that people over 40 who do at least three hours of moderate or intensive sport per week have a thinner and smoother stratum corneum, and a thicker and more elastic dermis.
The Difference Was Visible After Three Months …
“Under the microscope, the skin of the volunteers who participated in the experiment looked like that of a much younger person, and the only thing they had done was a little sport!”Testified Dr. Mark Tarnopolsky, who supervised the study.
The explanation for the phenomenon is unclear. But researchers suspect a link with myokines, substances made by working muscles. They found very high levels of myokines called IL-15 in the skin of people who had exercised (+ 50%). These myokines could cause structural changes in the skin.
However, other substances are certainly involved. Taking pills or injecting IL-15 to remove wrinkles is unlikely to be as effective as exercising, Dr. Tarnopolsky said.

But, as you have never doubted it, sport has many virtues, right?
You know very well that sport is essential to keep your figure, health, a good level of energy, etc. …
So the big question is not “Should you practice a sport?”, but rather “How to motivate yourself to practice a sport in the long term?“.

The answer is simple:
You won’t last! No one can last long, if practicing sports is just a strain on you, that you inflict on yourself for your health (or your beauty).
It is essential to choose a sport that brings you something else: fun, thrills, adventures, meetings, well-being …
Depending on your age, your state of health, your tastes, your constraints, you will have to choose the sport that suits you best.
As far as I’m concerned, all the sport I do goes through my passion for nature.
So I work hard in my vegetable garden and to pull weeds, prune my trees, turn my compost, transport manure, maintain my hen house … I walk a lot in the countryside, often playing with my grandchildren (that’s hard) or lifting a bag, a backpack with picnic, camping stuff, etc., etc. … Looks like small things to do, but everyone counts!
I swim in rivers, ponds, and scuba dive at the sea to see the bottoms; as I’m lucky enough to live close to the Mediterranean. Whenever the opportunity arises, I go mountaineering. I have always cycled to school and then to work; except recently because the roads are too dangerous (and I hate that).
I do all of this, and continue to do but in moderation now because of my age. There has always been a lot of “sport” in my life, but I have never done it “for sport”, instead I have always done it “for pleasure“.
And also …
I do it because I like to eat the vegetables from my vegetable garden. Also, I like to breathe the fresh air, the cool water on my skin, to hear the birds, to observe the plants, to contemplate beautiful landscapes, to walk with a group of friends, listen to them, talk to each other, which is ideal when you walk … I cycle because it’s easier, I get past traffic jams, I also like the wind in the face …
If I had to stop all of this, I wouldn’t say to myself: “Damn, this is going to deprive me of sport!“, but rather I would say: “Damn, this will deprive me of joy, of moments of happiness!“, see what I mean?
