What Is the Best Light Therapy for Wrinkles? – Can be Done at Home!
Many of us hate those wrinkles that are showing up on our face and we are wondering if some kind of light therapy exists; perhaps some facial exercises that we can easily do at home; maybe a diet to follow, or some natural treatments?
This article will help you find the right actions for you to take should you see those wrinkles starting to show up, or even if they are already well in place.
But, by the way, what causes wrinkles to appear? Is there a particular health condition or age that is more favorable for their appearance? Where do they come from, and why? …
Every time you change your facial expression, small muscles under your skin tighten and cause the skin to fold perpendicularly.
So, for example, when you raise your eyebrows, muscles pull them upwards, and the skin on your forehead wrinkles horizontally.
When you smile, muscles pull your lips towards your ears. Two furrows then form vertically on your cheeks, along your nose and at the edge of your lips. This is called the nasolabial fold.
“The nasolabial folds, commonly known as “smile lines” or “laugh lines”, are facial features. They are the two skin folds that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth. They are defined by facial structures that support the buccal fat pad. Also, they separate the cheeks from the upper lip. The term derives from Latin nasus for “nose” and labium for “lip”. Nasolabial fold is a misnomer, however. The proper anatomical term is melolabial fold, meaning the fold between the cheek and lip.”

Most Favorable Age For Wrinkles …
When you are young, your skin is elastic thanks to a strong presence of collagen. As soon as you relax your muscles, the wrinkling disappears.
Over time, the skin becomes thinner. It loses fat, the muscles atrophy. The wrinkles take longer to disappear. They end up becoming permanent, then we call them “wrinkles“.
If you don’t have wrinkles yet, you can predict where they will appear by making faces in front of a mirror.
Your facial expressions, which are uniquely yours, will form a unique network of wrinkles, as personal as your fingerprints.
Wrinkles are not in themselves a medical problem. They do not create any danger. The problem is that they can sometimes be very unpleasant.
On the other hand, it is more difficult to read facial expressions in someone with a wrinkle. This can lead to misunderstandings, more difficulty in communicating his emotions.
Should you stop smiling to prevent wrinkles?
You may have heard of some celebrities who go to great lengths not to smile in order to delay the onset of wrinkles.
The problem is that to stop yourself from smiling is to deprive yourself of the pleasant feelings that you have when you smile.
Indeed, we often believe that we smile because we are happy.
But it also works the other way around: the simple act of smiling already creates a feeling of happiness.
Plus, when you smile, you’re more likely to receive beautiful smiles back. This causes a virtuous cycle which can lead to a more positive life for yourself and for the people around you.
In order to avoid any appearance of wrinkles on the face, one should not only stop smiling, but also avoid all expressions. You would need to appear constantly indifferent, cold, unapproachable. That’s horrible!
Botox injections have precisely this effect: they paralyze certain facial muscles and limit the ability to express emotions with the face. It gives a frozen expression that can be felt like coldness.
So, here is a cool remedy, a light therapy, that you can easily do at home, or even in your car (although some other drivers might take it personally, so be careful), which will help fix the problem of wrinkles …
Facial exercises as a light therapy against wrinkles?
The muscles of the face can be trained like any other muscle in the body. And it is important to do this to keep all of your mobility, facial expressions, and maintain a youthful appearance.
Here are some exercises you can do in the car or at home:
- Raise the eyebrows as high as possible and hold them there for 5 seconds.
- Open your mouth as wide as possible, stick your tongue out as far as you can, and stay that way for a few seconds.
- Move your nose as much as possible from side to side.
- Raise your eyebrows, open your eyes wide, then frown.
- Shape an O with your lips, then give a big smile. Repeat several times.
- Sit comfortably, look up at the ceiling, and stick your tongue out as much as possible to exercise your neck muscles.
Doing these exercises regularly will help maintain full mobility in your face.

A beautiful face is formed from within
Your face expresses a lot of things that are going on inside your body.
So doctors start by observing the eyes, the skin of the face (color, appearance), the mouth, to estimate at first glance the state of health of their patient.
A healthy person does not have a gray face, red patches, yellow eyes, bloody gums and a loaded tongue!
This is why the best way to keep, or regain, a beautiful face is to take care of your lifestyle and in particular your diet:
- Drink water: Staying hydrated helps make the skin supple and helps blood and lymph flow. Drink enough so that your urine is pale yellow and especially so that you are not thirsty for too long.
- Eat vegetables rich in carotenoids. Carotenoids are the pigments that give this red, orange and yellow color to some vegetables and fruits. They are often also present in green vegetables. The most potent carotenoid is astaxanthin. The more red and yellow pigments you have in your skin, the more attractive people will find you.
- Get enough sleep, and quality sleep; your skin will be fresher when you wake up.
- Have a hormonal check-up of your pregnenolone, DHEA, estrogen, progesterone and testosterone levels done. Hormonal imbalances frequently lead to skin problems.
- Also get your thyroid gland checked: dry, scaly skin may be a sign of hypothyroidism (poor functioning of the thyroid gland) or hyperthyroidism (fast functioning).
- Take care of your digestive and intestinal hygiene: your intestines bring nutrients to your body and evacuate waste. If this function works poorly, waste accumulates and your skin becomes thick, oily, and pale. Smooth and glowing skin, on the contrary, indicates good intestinal hygiene.
Taking probiotics, consuming fermented foods, foods rich in omega-3s, fewer carbohydrates, and especially sweets, will help to cleanse your digestive system.
The sun is good for the skin, but …
Regular sun exposure (without sunscreen) is essential for health. Contrary to what you have probably heard, the sun protects the skin and may even lower the risk of skin cancer thanks to a higher level of vitamin D.
However, it is true that the skin of the face, very thin, is vulnerable to the sun. It is therefore not your face that should be exposed as a priority, but the other parts of your body, especially the head is precisely the part most often exposed.
In most civilizations, people have worn hats for protection from the sun. I recommend that you do the same, especially if you live in a sunny area.
Other light therapy tips against wrinkles …
Wrinkles are indeed linked to facial expressions. If you are often stressed, anxious, it is possible that your face is often contorted. Wrinkles will appear prematurely. It would therefore be a good thing to try to get rid of your stress through relaxation techniques (yoga, mediation, physical exercise, gentle activities).
However, the techniques are not always enough and it is sometimes a global questioning that you have to consider, in your lifestyle, your work, your place of residence, your associates, etc.
The challenge may seem overwhelming, but remember that the benefits of this light therapy against wrinkles won’t be limited to prolonging the youthfulness of your face.
A healthy life, which can be read on the face, also means less risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer, depression, etc.
If you think there is a “topic” here for you, I can only encourage you to think about it very seriously. Everything else (having time to eat healthy, drink well, sleep well …) will be that much easier to implement.

A really good article, I think it is very hard not to smile especially for a happy person. But wrinkles are the signs of aging. Maybe collagen and retinol products are good to use if you feel like your starting to get wrinkles, also some face masks should help.
There’s a variety of products that help for this purpose.
Thanks very much for your comment and sharing your experience. That’s right, smiling is a good start and making it a point of smiling from a young age definitely delays the aging process. It is easy to notice that people who smile often look younger.
Although, as you say, there are many products available on the market to help, however, one must be careful in making a choice as some products can in fact have the opposite effect.
I wish your a very healthy and happy smiley life!

Hi John,
Thank you for sharing this excellent post; I really enjoyed the reading.
You are right when you say that anxious people get wrinkles faster. I am an anxious person, and I’ve got lots of wrinkles on my forehead. Now I try to hide them with my hair. I always ask my hairdresser to make me a pony:)
However, I am planning to do some face exercises every day; I hope it will reduce the number of wrinkles on my forehead.
Thank you again for this excellent post!
I’m glad that you enjoyed reading my article Daniella, and thanks for sharing your experience with wrinkles. It might be difficult to erase, or reduce your forehead’s wrinkles by smiling, but if you ask your hairdresser to leave a fringe on your forehead (and not a “pony”) it will hide them already. Then, I suggest that you seek the help of a professional to see about your anxiety, this will certainly be beneficial.
I wish your a very healthy and happy smiley life!
John
