“Plaque” psoriasis (which accounts for 80% of cases) is an inflammatory disease of the skin; the cause being an abnormally rapid cell turnover. While the cells of the skin normally have a life span of 28 days (on average), in people who suffer from psoriasis, this delay does not exceed 7 days … A phenomenon that has genetic origins: it corresponds to a “bad programming” of the immune system.
Result, lesions appear on the surface of the skin; visually, it is well defined red plaques and covered with dead white skin, dander. These lesions are localized; most often, they are located at the level of the scalp, the elbows, the lumbar region and the knees. And if they are sometimes painful, in general, they scratch terribly.
Psoriasis is a disease that evolves by recurrent “thrusts”, interspersed with phases of remission. If this affection is not contagious, it is (to this day) impossible to treat in a definitive way and it can have real social and psychological consequences.
