The Benefits of Ginkgo Biloba Supplements – 13 Tested Natural Remedies …
Ginkgo biloba is increasingly being part of conversations because of the many benefits it brings to health.
Used for centuries in traditional medicine, it has the particularity of improving our cognitive functions, and boost blood circulation. This gives it different virtues as well to relieve the problems of dementia or depression; as well as to prevent certain heart diseases.
In today’s article, I wanted to take a more comprehensive look at the ailments that can be treated with Ginkgo biloba.
I also invite you to consult your doctor, as well as following my advice to buy quality.
But what is this Ginkgo biloba?
So, to start with, it might be useful to know what this “miraculous” plant is; where it comes from; and how did it come to us in the first place, right? …
Ginkgo biloba is a unique tree species in the world, which has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese, Japanese and Indian medicine.
It is also one of the oldest trees on the planet with more than 270 million years of history. Ginkgo biloba is therefore one of the thousands of plant species that exist today. It is a precious and fragile link between the present and the past.
Ginkgo is the only representative of the Ginkgoaceae family and the only “living fossil”.
Its history seems to go back to the Permian period (-299 to -251 million years), where it met then in all Eurasia. Taking its scientific name from the Chinese “Ginkyo” (meaning “apricot silver”). Ginkgo is also the “tree with ecus” because of its beautiful golden yellow foliage that it covers in autumn.
As early as the 11th century (under the Song Dynasty), Ginkgo was mentioned in Chinese literature by the poet Ou-Yang Xiu. Indeed, many artists, poets and painters, admired its “fruits” and leaves. Under the Song and Yuan dynasties, Ginkgo seems to be widely cultivated throughout China.
And, how did Ginkgo biloba come to us?
After studying the tree for 2 years, the German doctor and botanist Engelbert Kaempfer decides to bring back young Ginkgo shoots which will then be planted in a botanical garden in the Netherlands.
Several exchanges of cuttings and roots of Ginkgo biloba between botanists and naturalists allowed the arrival of the first plants of the tree into France.
Meanwhile, in China, it is widely in use for medicinal purposes to relieve digestive disorders, promote blood circulation, treat skin wounds and diarrhea.
It was not before the end of the 1950s that the use of Ginkgo biloba became widespread in the West. And many scientific studies were conducted to better understand its action on the body and learn more about its composition.
What are the benefits of Ginkgo biloba supplements?
Preventing dementia
Many studies have highlighted the beneficial effects of Ginkgo biloba on cognitive and memory disorders such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Taken as a supplement, the leaves of this Asian tree would improve our cognitive abilities and stimulate our neuronal activity.
A blood circulation booster
Ginkgo is also known as a very powerful natural vasodilator (or vasodilatator). It will therefore help to dilate the blood vessels and facilitate the flow of blood to the ends of our body.
It is very important to oxygenate all our organs properly; and also to boost our energy levels and our strength (therefore, a good point for athletes).
Ginkgo biloba improves cognitive functions
The use of Ginkgo biloba supplements would improve our memory, but also our ability to focus or create.
Clinical experiments carried out on the effects of this medicinal plant show a significant improvement in short-term memory.
Ginkgo is also effective in the treatment of autism, attention disorders, or schizophrenia.
A great mood regulator
If you suffer from mood swings, or even depression, Ginkgo biloba may be an excellent alternative or an adjunct to conventional treatments.
It would indeed regulate our hormone secretions and thus stabilize our mood. It is even more effective when these disorders are related to cognitive dysfunction.
Where to buy organic Ginkgo biloba?
I found that the best deals are on Amazon.
I personally recommend this pack of 3 for the good reason that you will really need more than a hundred capsules to get you started.
So this pack of 3 is more economical as far as postage and packaging is concerned, and will last you longer.
Ginkgo biloba is great to relieve pain
Ginkgo biloba is an excellent alternative to painkillers. Indeed, its anti-inflammatory properties can reduce the sensation of pain. It is therefore a supplement particularly appreciated by sportsmen (especially during convalescence), but also by people prone to chronic migraines, for example.
Improve your vision thanks to Ginkgo biloba
Rich in antioxidants, Ginkgo biloba would protect our ocular system, including oxidative stress that results from the action of free radicals.
It is therefore an effective treatment to prevent macular degeneration, age-related macular degeneration, and also cataracts.
A cure for erectile dysfunction?
Men suffering from erectile dysfunction usually have a more general problem of blood circulation.
Taking a natural vasodilator like Ginkgo biloba will allow them to facilitate the influx of blood to the cavernous body of the penis, and thus to find better sexual functions.
It is also a natural aphrodisiac. Much safer than taking all sorts of pills that are said to turn you into a “sex machine”.
You can treat fibromyalgia with Ginkgo biloba
In combination with coenzyme Q10, Ginkgo biloba may even relieve fibromyalgia, a condition that results in muscle pain, memory loss and difficulty sleeping. So, worth giving a try!
A great relief for those suffering from Tinnitus
Ginkgo would also be effective in getting rid of this unpleasant buzz in your ears. Indeed, tinnitus is most often the symptom of a blood circulation problem.
This natural antioxidant (rich in flavonoids and perpenoids) would therefore reduce them effectively by protecting your nerves and blood vessels.
I can personally recommend a good course of Ginkgo biloba supplements to those suffering from tinnitus as I am myself suffering from this condition, and nothing else has worked better for me.
Personal recommendation
Great if you suffer from altitude sickness
If you suffer from mountain sickness (which usually occurs at altitudes above 2,000 meters / 6,562 feet), you can take Ginkgo biloba.
Its effectiveness has been proven through several studies on people suffering from this physical distress.
You can reduce vertigo with Ginkgo biloba
If you suffer from vertigo, know that you can relieve them by taking some Ginkgo biloba supplement capsules.
This is due to the ginkgsolides and bilobids that compose it and that stabilize your environment (which we tend to perceive as shifting when we suffer from vertigo).
Relief of woman’s menstrual period
Many women use Ginkgo biloba to soothe the unpleasantness of premenstrual syndrome, which often results in migraines, anxiety and muscle aches.
As we have seen above, its effects on our hormone levels also make it a great way to stabilize and improve mood for the duration of the menstruation.
You can use Ginkgo biloba to treat asthma
Ginkgo biloba is a powerful anti-inflammatory and natural antioxidant, it reduces the symptoms of asthma and facilitate breathing.
In general, it is also a good preventive treatment against heart disease.

This post has been incredibly helpful and I wouldn’t have sought out this information if it wasn’t for you. I will definitely have to try out more of this for my own health needs. Great post!
Thanks so much for visiting my website and for taking the time to comment on my article about the benefits of Ginkgo Biloba. As you must have gathered I am a great believer in natural remedies, be it for psoriasis or any sort of health issues that our bodies might have. Thank you for this very informative post.
I’ve heard of Ginko Biloba (although I’m still not sure if I can pronounce it properly) but I never knew much about it. I’m amazed that the tree has 270 million years of history!
The benefits seem to be a no-brainer to me. Dementia prevention, improving cognitive function, etc… Sign me up.
The potential to treat asthma is of particular interest to me as I’ve had asthma for as long as I can remember. I manage it but I’d love to not have to worry about it.
You’ve listed a few options here. Is there one company/product you recommend over all of the others?
Thanks again,
Scott
Thanks for stopping by Scott. Because of not having asthma myself I can only recommend a product that you could try with success because of all the positive reviews I have read about and for some reports I received from my readers. Therefore one that would most likely help you with your asthma is the special offer that is running at the moment on Amazon.
Please make sure to share your experience with it once you have tried it, okay?
I wish all the best of health Scott,
John
